When Lauren takes a photo of a stranger on a beach and shares it online, she has no idea what will come of that single click. Her daughters are surprised that she posted a photo without consent, but it’s only when she starts to get anonymous messages about the woman on the beach that she deletes the photo. It’s too little too late, and the messages escalate, prompting Lauren to confess to the woman. The woman has her own dark story, one that might explain the messages, but Lauren isn’t convinced. Then her ex-husband begins to harass her, telling her she shares too much online and brought this on herself. She’s also dealing with other problems. A difficult client at work – one who starts to show up in places he shouldn’t be. Her younger daughter is behaving out of character and Lauren can’t work out what’s wrong. And the cracks are literally beginning to show in her old South Dublin house, mirroring the cracks in her carefully curated life. Meanwhile, the messages from the internet troll become more personal and more vindictive. Her friends feel she should stand up to her stalker, but Lauren isn’t so sure. And then she makes one small mistake that brings everything tumbling down.

I read from 'The Abandoned' with a question and answers session afterwards. It was my first author event and for me, it was a great experience. North West Words events are a must for all those who are interested in reading, writing, literature and the arts. They also have a literary magazine! Monthly gatherings are in Letterkenny Florence Food Company on the last Thursdays in the month.

Linda Green says hullo to you all.. Hi, I’m Linda Green and I’m a wife and mother from Ireland. I have always loved the written word since I was a little girl, sneaking a torch into bed with me at night to read Malory Towers under my duvet. As I got older this love remained and as an avid reader and writer I studied English Literature in University and later went on to manage and work in different bookstores in my local area. However, it was only in 2016 when I started my very own book blog (www.booksofallkinds.weebly.com) that I really began to take my own writing seriously, and finished An Oldecastle Affair within a few months. Being a book blogger is such a wonderful experience and I love being a part of the book community, and as I helped spread the word about authors who were making their dreams come true, it gave me more confidence to reach for my own. How I Reached out to Readers as a Debut Author by Sharon Thompson
How did my debut crime novel ‘The Abandoned’ make #1 Best-seller on Amazon Kindle, on the day of its release? Honestly – I don’t know. I do have a great publisher and excellent local and family support, but I work hard to reach readers.My family is emotionally blackmailed into purchasing. Every friend is cajoled into sharing my links. But…. fellow writers are definitely my unwavering supporters. I always reach out to those published/unpublished, those with blogs or the many people starting out. Writers tend to understand my anxious waiting, the nail-biting when opening emails, the horrid internal screaming while reading reviews. They counsel me. We help each other and we truly expect nothing in return. (You all know who you are. Thank you x) .......

Jacinta Matthews introduces The Annie McHale Debut Novel Award. Annie McHale was a wonderful, warm, inspiring and creative lady who entered the hearts of everyone she met. Her smile reassured, cast worries aside and for those fortunate enough to receive it, stranger or friend, their lives were the better for it. Annie loved anything creative and instilled in me a sense of thinking outside the box. If you can imagine it, then you can create it or at least have great fun trying. All my endevours as a child were not exactly bankable, but she always told me they were great and exactly what I set out to achieve. As you have probably figured out by now, Annie McHale is my mother. I always remember her with a book in her hand. She had one in every room, kitchen, sitting room, bedroom. She could have three novels going on at the same time, and she knew each one individually. It was her west of Ireland upbringing that brought the love of storytelling. I hope I received at least a pinch of her creativity. It was to honor her memory that I created this award. She always admired anyone who took a chance on their beliefs and kept going towards their goal. It is extremely hard to get a first book published, to find that one person who sees your dream and runs with it. So this award is to spur you on in your challenge and your goals. SUBMISSIONS All new debut novels launched in 2017 through a recognised publishing house will be eligible to enter. Karin Baine
Karin must be one of the best-selling authors I know. Extremely popular Mills and Boon writer. From Fling to Wedding Ring. That title alone has me hooked! Karin is also lovely, modest and does give-aways of her books often. Watch out for Karin and find her books. She's heaps of them.
Part three of a trilogy but if I know Sam Blake this wil be a great standalone book as well. Sam Blake is one of my favourite crime writers and her alter-ego is a wonderful support to me too. A definite buy for me.
Rachael English is another consistently good Irish female writer. I met her many moons ago for other reasons and we only shook hands and I remember her clearly. A great woman and a marvellous writer.
